jumbled

01/19/2012

After just a few weeks with wordpress the amazing KP figured out whatever killed my old blog back in November… and so, even though I don’t hate wordpress, I love my old blog.
Sorry for the inconvenience, but please redirect HERE for future blogging from Quill and Arrow Press.

TAKE ME TO THE NEW BLOG!

jumbled

Things have been a bit jumbled lately, a goal for myself for the rest of the year is to be more consistent and steady.

around asheville

I’ve finally started to sort through some images from the past two months of living in asheville.
Here they are, in six parts.

a studio

1. A few shots from the new studio including Bridget’s fixer upper press, the outside of our studio, some type drawers, and lovely little boxes of nibs for my calligraphy pen.

tiles and patterns

2. Patchwork and patterns and tiles from around town. Bottom right is from the book West Virginia Quilts and Quilt makers– I’ve been thinking a lot about making a meticulous quilt.

a mixture

3. Ins and outs including the new store front

and such

4. Etc… including my favorite Asheville graffiti reading, “dear 2011, why?”

a home

5. Nooks and crannies of my house.

charcoal and gold

6. Patterns in black and gold

old sketchbooks

my old sketchbooks

Lately I’ve been asking myself ‘why do I make books?’ and thinking about the process of keeping a sketchbook or a journal. This thought process (combined with moving all of my belongings into a new house) made me inclined to gather all of my old books into one place and look at my journey through the sketches, words, and collections of things I have kept over the past ten or so years. This process of documenting and collecting is a highly important one to me and although it ebbs and flows in frequency is something I will likely continue indefinitely.

open pages, old sketchbooks

I make blank books because I want other people to give them life and create their own personal archive, in whatever way is important to them.

I have a steady stream of new books available on my etsy page along with plenty of letterpress prints including this little set of six postcards (below).
They are the last things I printed before moving to North Carolina.

Moving the Vandercook #4 into its new home

Starting January 1st Quill and Arrow Press has a new home– it’s first real home, really. Fellow printers Ele, Bridget, and I are moving in to a sweet yellow studio in West Asheville. We have a lot of moving, organizing, paperwork, and cleaning to do before we open doors to the public… but are quite excited about the adventure.

Day One

12/20/2011

Well, after much time trying to decide why my old blog died an untimely death, I’ve thrown in the towel and started this new blog using wordpress.
So long old blog, I did love you.
